I had a script for klonopin/clonazepam for close to 10yrs. They were 1mg and I often took only 1/2 of the pill. I also took it as needed, not every day. I haven’t had a script for a little over a year now, due to my overdose attempt. I am still able to obtain benzos, mostly xanax, and even had 25 klonopin again a few months ago. I still have one pill left. The thing is those 25 klonopin lasted 5 months. When I read about Stevie Nicks taking 2 pills 3 times a day, I’m floored. No wonder she was out of it. Panic attacks are a horrible and unbearable. The benzos are the only thing that has ever given me relief from them. I never felt “high” on benzos, just calm (calm compared to feeling like I’m going to jump out of my skin or lose my mind or both!). Even though I really never “abused” benzos, with the exception of the overdose, I feel like I need to detox once and for all. I would also like to live a life free of panic attacks.

I have been through two 7 day detox centers that replaced one drug for another and the detox process was very painful. I live in Ca and want a proper holistic, non painful detox center to get this devil drug out of my system and help naturally with my anxiety so I can get my life back. Im still on 1 mg of klonopin a day and done it wrong so many ways. Please advise me where to go to heal. I’ve lost 20 lbs. Im exhausted. My family and friends dont understand. I cant take much more of this.

May 17, 2011 I was taking as many as 4-6 xanax a day, coupled with ~ 6-8 mgs Klonopin, & hand fulls of atavan for a good solid year. History of drug use goes as far back as 1998. Alcohol went the program. This past week I have begun to romance the idea of going thru "traditional program" only to fear the thought & change my mind, slowly decreasing my intake. I have a friend that began research on your alternative, holistic approach of detoxing. I am down to 6 mg Klonopin & without the others at this time, however there is a liquor store on every corner. Do you think I would be successful with the use of your home program, continued myofascial realease tx, & help of 2 very close therapist friends?

Roze, Xanax detox done correctly can be quite smooth as one should be on a healthy recovery program which removes accumulated toxic amounts of Xanax and helps the body function normally again. Mere 'withdrawal management' by using only alternate drugs is the least minimum treatment for a benzo or Xanax withdrawal. It seems like you experienced the least amount of care possible. Glad you survived Xanax addiction. Xanax rehabilitation can take months of holistic healthy recovery programs.

I’m blown away by this article. I am 2 years clean off Xanax all which was prescribed by my Doctor. I was so crazy just like Stevie says but I had no idea it was the benzos.

I went to a traditional detox center after being on Xanax for 2 yrs, up to 5mg a day. This was the most hellish horrific thing I ever did in my life.

Traditional detox does not work. They gave me nothing for the horrible withdrawls. All I got was medication so I wouldn’t seisure up and die. I had non stop panic attacks for 3 days straight with no sleep whatsoever. I was in a dorm room with many others coming off drugs. It was an anonymous detox center so they tried to shove down my throat how much of an addict I was and how I took the Xanax for the euphoric feeling. I had enough so I left after I was done physcially detoxing. Which was just short of 2 weeks.

When I got home, that was a whole new chapter in detoxing. I had no idea it was going to continue. They told me nothing in detox of the withdrawls still to take effect. I had horrible body shakes. So bad I couldn’t brush my teeth as I couldn’t get my hand to be still. I didn’t sleep and I tried killing myself. I knew going into the mental ward was no good because I had been there before and they hand out benzos like it’s candy. I didn’t want to go back on benzos, I just wanted to be normal.
I started on an antidepressant and within a month my symptoms started to subside. Within 3 months I was pretty much healed but still on antidepressant.

I almost cannot describe in words how I felt when I started to become tolerant to the Xanax and when I detoxed. Life was a living hell and there was no way out.

No one has experienced hell until you come off Benzos and unlike other drugs, the hell continues once the poision is out of your body.

It is my lifes work to spread the word about the hell benzodiaepines will put you in and to help those in the hell get out of it.

Husband off Benzo/Opiate dependency for three years. Behaviors are very similar although he's not in active use. He went to rehab, then worked a program for 6 months then "He was better" and "does not have a problem". His crazy-making behaviors contributed to divorce, bankruptcy, etc. He's convinced he's not an addict and does not need to be working any sort of program. At three years clean (?), what is a realistic treatment program for someone suffering from the disease of addiction (benzo and opiate addiction and cocaine dependency)? He sees his behaviors as perfectly fine (I'm thinking denial), although they as crazy-making for his family as when he was in active addiction.
