Is OxyContin Abuse A Problem?

What is OxyContin? OxyContin is the trade name for the strong narcotic (opiate) oxycodone hydrochloride.

On the street, OxyContin is ‘street legal’ heroin. Meaning oxy is often swapped back and forth for heroin.

Continual using opiates, like OxyContin, will lead to a tolerance for the drug, requiring larger and larger doses to create a similar reaction as earlier times it was used. .

Each individual will have different reactions to Oxy. A person taking Oxy’s as little as three to five times, can become physically addicted, meaning that he will experience withdrawal symptoms as soon as he stops taking Oxy. Mentally, withdrawal symptoms cause severe anxiety and a preoccupation with the drug. This anxiety is accompanied with depression and an inability to care about anything other than finding and taking the drug.

Oxy Withdrawal Symptoms:

Some withdrawal symptoms from Oxy are so severe that when first experienced, the person thinks they are having a heart attack, convulsions or requires medical attention.

OxyContin mimic feel good or pleasure sensations that the body naturally produce when you do things that are really wonderful such as falling in love, getting married, winning a major sporting game, success, etc. Now the side effects of naturally creating these great conditions is your prospering and succeeding in your life and goals!

When Oxy is used to create those feelings artificially, a fantasy world or artificial life is created in the person’s mind. That’s the door to drug addiction. Walk through it and you may go further down the rabbit hole than you initially realized you’d ever venture. That’s the problem. Despite the fact that even one pill of Oxy sometimes creates sudden death in some individuals. So load your own gun if you want, but I’m not going to stand by and watch you blow your brains out.

Significant withdrawal symptoms sometimes drives people to do ‘anything’ to regain the Oxy high or to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Dream land is often too attractive for some.

The Oxy down after a high is extremely dehumanizing and can lead people to seeking instant gratification, or that high, by taking more of the same or other drugs. The long-term effect of being addicted to OxyContin can require extensive physical detoxification and the lengthy process of rekindling a person’s enthusiasm to find enjoyment in a drug-free life.
