Correct At Home Drug Withdrawal
I’ve been working in the drug detox and rehab field for 10 years now. It’s safe to say I’ve seen my share of ridiculous, tragic and unbelievably foolish attempts to withdraw from drugs.
Withdrawing from Drugs At Home Correctly
At Home drug withdrawal is the process of either reducing or eliminating the use of drugs while one is at home or not at an in-patient detox facility or clinic. There are so many ways to incorrectly detox from drugs that it amazes me how far off people can go when attempting to get clean or off drugs.
Drug Withdrawal: is a process of taking a person off of drugs so they are no longer dependent on those drugs to function. Some people have seen horror stories of people going through heroin withdrawals or alcohol withdrawals, getting very sick, suffering, etc. One can get the idea that drug withdrawal is awful and something to be avoided.
Correct Drug Withdrawal: is the skilled and exact process of following specific routines, advices and therapeutic actions which will comfortably take a person through the transition of being on drugs to being taken off of them. While a person’s body and mind readjusts to ‘no drugs’ influencing their body, a great deal of stress reactions can be experienced.
Bad Detox / Withdrawals = Stress Reaction
A stress reaction is a body warning system that a major change is taking place. Normally, if you are under a lot of stress, you should be able to deal with it reasonably comfortably. You may need some extra sleep, more food, more vitamins, time to breathe, but you get through it.
If your physical needs are not being met; ie you have not had enough rest, your nutritional levels are not adequate to meet the huge demands of your stressed out body or mind, or there are a lot of toxins (drugs) floating around in your body, you can be expect some rough times ahead.
Withdraw = Toxic Stress
Drugs and pharmaceuticals have nasty side effects. Correctly said, drugs have effects that you don’t want.
Detox: means to thoroughly remove the toxins from a body. Now here’s your reality check. Pharmaceuticals build up in the body and are considered to be toxins by your body. Your doctor may not think so, but your body knows more than your doctor.
Drugs are toxic especially when their residuals build up in the body over time. Taking drugs for years creates a toxic overload on the body. This is called ‘body burden’, as the burden of drug residuals is so great that your body can not remove the drugs from it’s tissues or organs easily if at all.
Detox means to help the body remove the toxic burden of drugs from the body so that your body and mind can properly function normally and no longer be adversely influenced by the current or accumulated effects of the drugs no stored in your body tissue, organs, nerves, brain etc.
Is Detox Causing You Stress?
If your detox is stressing you out and you’re sick, can’t function, feel like you’d rather be dead, etc. you’re obviously under a lot of stress.
What you don’t realize yet, is you’re under stress because your body is not prepared for the battle royal that your body and mind or fighting. If you go into battle without proper directions, supplies, training and so on, do you think you’ll win that battle? Well the huge number of casualties in World War 2 and Vietnam proved that training, supplies and good intelligence saves lives. It also wins the battle fast and with no casualties.
Detoxing correctly is really about creating such a plentiful and healthy condition that a severe stress reaction has little or no effect on you.

Roxanne:
I read that heroin detox was safe to do at home instead of going to a hospitol. I tend to disagree because heroin is the worst drug to be addicted to.. Detoxing from it can kill you if it is not done in the appropriate fashion. The withdrawel symptoms alone can cause an addict to fall off the wagon and use it again. Professional chaperones are the only sufficient way to deal with this addiction.
