Drug Rehab Problems? Try A Different Type of Rehab

Looking for A Different Type of Rehab Program?

You may have been put on medications to temporarily solve your drug dependency or addiction problem. If you’re still on meds, pills or back using, even after counseling it’s obvious drugs still aren’t the answer to your problems.

But what is the answer to drug abuse, drug addiction or alcoholism? Is there only one answer? Drug Rehab Advisor specializes in successful rehab programs which end addiction.

Working in the drug rehab / addictions and detox field for 10 years, I’ve discovered that there is always more than one answer. Problems as life threatening that people fall fully into drug dependency or abuse are very major problems.

Finding the Right Rehab Program

The right questions should be: How long have you been abusing drugs or alcohol? What happens when you try to stop? How long can you stay clean? Do you have something in your life that you could make more desirable than drugs? Do you know how to make your body function normally without drugs?

People get trapped into using and abusing alcohol and drugs because they really don’t know any better. If they had a better solution to their problems they would do that. But all they’ve got is a bottle, a prescription or some drugs to solve their problems.

Sometimes getting off drugs or alcohol is easy. When the problem is major or life threatening, if the person has had many attempts at detox or rehab and things aren’t working out, you need to take a different approach to the detox and rehab program strategy.

Take a different approach to the type of program or methods you’ve already tried. That means if the rehab or detox programs were a drug substitute or psych based program, try alternative or holistic. If 12 Step is always used, try Cognitive or Learning / behavioral model. If hospitals were used, use homey rehabs with a personal touch.

The idea here is that if the method of rehab or detox hasn’t been working, use a different method.

Here is a detox and rehab success story from a person who simply stopped doing the ‘usual’ and tried a different approach than the ones he’d already tried, 10 times before.

I have been sober for about 3 years now.  I have a job, I have a good relationship with my family, and I am happy for the first time in years.

I had been in over 10 different rehabilitation centers, some of which I had gone back to numerous times.  My family was in total support of me getting clean but would not support me in my drug addiction which left me homeless for much of the time that I was using.  Every treatment center that I went to wanted to free me from drug addiction and deliver me to my family a sober individual.  I was put on medications that temporarily solved my problem, but once I was off of them I would find myself back on drugs and unable to deal with my life, some of the medications I was given gave me more problems than I originally had.

I personally was not a fan of someone else telling me what my problem was or how to fix it, but in a different program I got to figure that out for myself.

Different Types of Rehab Programs

The above is not an endorsement of any rehab program, as I work with many alternative detox and rehab centers and programs. I found that if people weren’t getting results with what they thought was the ‘right’ way to do detox and rehab, they only made breakthroughs in recovery when they took a different approaches to resolving their dependency issues.

This person’s rehabilitation was dependent on getting off drugs & medications – that may be an approach only some wish to take. This rehab message is: if a rehab method isn’t working despite honest efforts, try a different rehab and detox method.

Iowa Drug Rehab – Alternative Holistic Rehabilitation

Iowa drug rehab program that offers alternative non-12 Step approach to rehabilitation. Many rehab programs offer only medical, psycho/social/behavioral or 12 Step rehab models to choose from. An alternative to traditional rehab programs offers an opportunity for people who need and want a rehab that fits their needs better.

Cognitive / Motivational Counseling In Iowa Rehab

Cognitive-behavioral therapy CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events.  The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel and act better even if the situation does not change.

CBT uses a questioning method of getting people to look at and inspect their reactions without the therapist evaluating, explaining or invalidating the person’s reactions to the situation. CBT follows the principal that people can discover their own shortcomings for themselves and therefore learn best when they are asked the right questions at the right time.

Feelings are used to uncover underlying conditions and find out what factual things may be occurring or have occurred which now influence the persons reactions. Endlessly speaking about feelings therefore, does not bring about changed conditions and may even worsen them. Homework is given to the client so they can further learn about life conditions and thereby appreciate and understand new conditions in life and make better choices.

Natural / Alternative Rehab Programs

Natural / Alternative Rehab programs treat the real underlying reasons why a person may be suffering from anxiety, depression, loss of passion, or inability to handle emotional pain. While drugs may have a place in treatment, often they do nothing for the underlying causes, and have side effects that can create bigger problems.

Often mood disorders are the result of either poor nutrition, or an inability to metabolize good nutrition — damaged enzymes or mutated genes could be the cause. A person in balance should be able to handle even the gravest of tragedies without the situation becoming a chronic mood disorder.

Natural or holistic rehab would balance this condition with nutrition, exercise, medication tapering, yoga, counseling, acupuncture, supplementation, etc. All of these alternative rehab treatments are done in an Iowa alternative drug rehab program.

Discoveries in ortho-molecular medicine, nutritional therapy and environmental medicine have created massive breakthroughs for people in rehab recovery programs.

These discoveries are newly applied to drug / alcohol detox and rehab programs. Only a few cutting edge detox and rehab programs are utilizing these holistic therapies.

Many clients have now gained incredible recoveries even when prior rehab attempts resulted in only disappointment and ill health.

Drug & Alcohol Rehab Center – Philosophy of Success

Effective Rehab Centers

An effective drug & alcohol rehab center program would give you and your family that person fully back again. A rehab center would fully and completely detoxify someone so their health was fully restored and they no longer had any drug cravings.

Any depression associated with a drug or alcohol abusing lifestyle would be fully resolved through the rehab process, not medications. A client would leave their old past life style and depression behind and be happy again. Much of the depression caused by drug & alcohol abuse is resolved with intensive holistic detox programs, see Effective Detox Program philosophy.

To understanding what’s behind drug / alcohol abuse, watch drug abuse video at www.drugrehabadvisor.com

The damage created by abusive living results in guilt. Restoration of wrongs done should be part of a drug / alcohol rehab program. Restoring self esteem and personal integrity is an action done while in rehab. Inpatient rehab centers have the task of helping and encouraging clients to fully regain self respect.

Families can insist that integrity processing be fully completed. Courtesy, respect and honesty are expected behaviors of people properly completing rehab.

Therefore a person completing a detox and rehab program would be: without drug or alcohol cravings, healthy, responsible, honest, friendly and in communication, contribute and consider themselves a member of society again. They would be REHABILITATED.

The Rehab Centers I currently work with rehab and detox centers that average 1 to 5 months in length. While medical detox is usually short, days or weeks at the most, rehab is a longer process. I work with detox and rehab centers in the U.S. in the states of Florida, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Manhattan, Colorado, Texas, Nevada, California, Utah, Michigan and Georgia.

In Canada I have work closely with effective detox and rehab centers in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The drug & alcohol detox & centers I work with in BC and Alberta specialize in one on one consultations and therapies both therapeutic and educational rehab programs are utilized. See BC Drug Rehab & Sauna Detox page.

I also refer people to a center in the UK, and coordinate with a rehab consultant in London, if you are looking for quality rehab and live in Europe or the Middle East.

What rehabs don’t work

Rehab centers and detox centers are not created equally. Many rehab programs are simply working out of a hospital or riding off of insurance claimants attending their program. These centers usually won’t post success rates. They teach clients that “relapse is part of recovery” as a method of excusing ineffective treatments.

Recovery and Rehabilitation should be synonymous. Sending addicts home before they are fully detoxified and rehabilitated is the cause of most rehab failure. If a person is still ‘recovering’ then they haven’t recovered, have they?

Factually, there are social fellowships which aid and contribute to ones sobriety. These fellowships and organizations are wonderful. But social fellowships are for those who are clean and sober. My point is that rehab programs have a start and a finish. Rehab is complete after recovery is achieved.

Low cost half way house

Therapeutic communities can offer wonderful support to a person recovering from a long lifestyle of addiction. Low cost ½ Way Houses are one way to transition back to responsible living in society.

Some rehab programs expect transition into a ½ Way House after a rehab program. Other rehab centers expect the person to have achieved a returned level of responsibility by the time they complete a rehab program.

Therefore a low or lower cost half way house is intended to either transition a person from rehab to real life, or confirm that a rehab program was effective before moving back into society. People who have no or few work related skills should consider transitional housing as part of a rehab plan.

Effective Detox & Rehab Program – 4 Phase Program

Phases of an Effective Detox and Rehab Program

For BC Sauna Detox & Drug Rehab see link, for other location see Drug Rehab & Detox Categories –>

  • Phase I: 24/7 intensive withdrawal process, followed by a proprietary Sauna Based, Drug-Free Dis-intoxification Program that rids the body of accumulated drug residuals stored in the body fat, organs, etc. This natural body detox rapidly returns vibrant health back to the individual.
  • Phase II: Special Educational Therapies designed to gently assist the addicted person back to self-control. Many drug and alcohol abusers are easily ’set off’ by circumstances in their lives. Those triggers are put back into the direct control of the recovering addict. These therapies assist a person to face and handle their environment, others and themselves with comfort and ease.
  • Phase III: Additional Educational Therapies to rehab self-esteem and cure the need for drugs. Guilt and depression are the two biggest barriers to long-term effective recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. What about the person’s past? Courses, processes and counseling is delivered at this stage of rehabilitation to end guilt and depression from the past. Many rehab students resolve forever the reason they got or stayed involved in drug and alcohol abuse here.
  • Phase IV: A Follow-Up Program to assist the former addicted person back into society. This drug & alcohol Detox and Rehab Program rehabilitates former drug and alcohol abusers before the person is sent home. This is an important concept. A minimum of 3 months of intense follow up is done to ensure the newly rehabilitated individual is following through on their commitments they made to their families, themselves and society. Sometimes people need to repair past mis-deeds, re-gain trust by demonstrating honor and trustworthiness. Each rehabilitated individual has a unique after-care program which carries them through their success return into society.

This 4 phase detox and rehab process ends addiction in 70% and up to 85% of people participating in rehab. The entire process can take as little as 2 months, but the program averages 4 months for most people. A flat fee is charged for the program, regardless of length. Total fees average $17,000 to $35,000 dollars depending on location.

Drug Rehab Advisor Help

Family members need objective information about effective rehab centers.

Drug addiction and alcoholism disrupts and torments families as well as ruining the abuser’s life. When a family member truly wants the best recovery program for their loved one, a drug rehab consultant should be contacted.

I find drug rehab that works. That’s why I created a referral site, wrote all these articles and why people contact me when looking for drug and alcohol programs that will end addictions problem; even if a longstanding substance abuse problem and a dozen treatment attempts haven’t solved the problem, yet.

Factually, select rehab options get 65% to 94% success on average. Higher success would be possible but some drug abusers don’t wish to end their habit. By my experience approximately 80% of addicts going to rehab want to end their addiction. But, they simply don’t know how to move on in life and stay clean.

You may have your own blind spots regarding a family member’s addiction. Having an outside and unbiased consultant consider factors you haven’t yet looked at can make a huge difference in selecting a successful program the first time or the tenth time.

Determining the potential success of a detox or rehab candidate is part of a consulting assessment.

Alcohol and drug treatment is most effective in inpatient recovery centers for longer term problems.

Drug rehab should be the process of riding an addict or alcoholic of obsessions and compulsions to abuse drugs. Effective substance abuse treatment programs should return a teen or adult to full control over their lives again, not merely get the person to stop drinking or drugging.

Outpatient Programs

Rehab programs that use counselors, doctors, social workers, meetings etc, while the person continues living at home is effective for people able to stop using drugs and alcohol while processing their lives through recovery.

If a person is ’slipping’ frequently or continue to use, outpatient programs are not appropriate for their situation.

Outpatient programs are generally run through state or city funded health centers, community centers, or private counselors.

Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab

An inpatient program may be located in a private residence, lodge, center, clinic, hospital or retreat.

1. Publicly funded or partially subsidized inpatient rehab is usually run through centers or clinics designed specifically for a rehab program. Some are simply add-ons to a hospital or clinic. These should provide space to exercise, take a walk and also be in a very secure location.

The philosophy of the center should focus on complete rehabilitation, not simply beginning a continuum of care.

2. Private rehab residences, centers or retreats are generally located in pleasant and therapeutic locations that assist recovery. Sometimes exclusive residential rehab centers are required for individuals needing individual attention or privacy.

The methods of rehabilitation used should be consistent with their philosophy. Are medications used at the center? Have they compromised their program philosophy by using mood altering or addictive drugs? Do they expect their clients to recover at the center?

3. Larger drug rehab centers also offer opportunities of a therapeutic community, lots of space and amenities, exercise areas etc, all on the premises. Large rehab centers provide a different experience than those exclusive to a handful of clients.

How many trained counselors are at the center? Do they do security watches? How do they respond to drug or alcohol violations?

Referring clients to rehabs that work is the first priority and commitment made to a client. This may mean a rehab consultant refers substance abusers to treatment in more modest or more expensive, but secure surroundings. It may require they travel far away to get to a safe and suitable location.

Inpatient facilities tend to work best for teens and addicted people who wish to get assistance and resolve a drug problem rapidly and completely.

4. Luxury rehab centers and detox facilities have made an inpatient program more comfortable for substance abuse treatment. The finest effective rehab may require anticipating all of a clients needs. Luxury accommodations and holistic medical care offer the finest in recovery programs. These are not necessarily the most effective, but may provide services beyond the norm. Essentially, people’s problems must be met through the rehab program.

The Purpose of Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation

Sober living is the primary objective of rehab. Insuring successful sobriety requires something more from a rehab. Health, honesty, success and happiness of a person returning to live in society should be the method of assuring long-term recovery.

Therefore finding and locating drug and alcohol rehab centers that use effective programs of recovery, should be the objective of a family member seeking help for a loved one abusing drugs or alcohol.

Rehabilitate means to bring back to proper or a former healthy or good condition. If a person still needs treatment, have they been rehabilitated?

Rehabilitation includes returning social responsibility to substance abusers as well as repairing the physical and mental consequences of drug abuse. Emotionally, people may be a wreck after drugs have ravaged their lives. All these factors should be addressed in a holistic way. That would make up a recovery program worthy of the term rehabilitation.

Drug rehab programs should insist the person in recovery demonstrates they have been rehabilitated before leaving the rehab center. Rehabilitation happens in rehab, and evidence of recovery through ones actions, responsibility and self control is manifested before returning home.

Caution:

If a rehabilitation programs don’t or won’t clearly relay success rates and their in-patient treatment is 30 days, a person may expect many return visits and still not achieve full recovery.

Relapse doesn’t need to be part of a recovery plan. However, knowledge of slips and how to repair oneself if they occur should be included in a life-long strategy.
